Greece top choice for Russians

According to the Association of Russian Tour Operators (ATOR), Greece was the most popular foreign tourist destination for Russian in the month of May. Sochi was their first holiday preference overall for the same period. The total of Russian holidaymakers abroad was down compared to last year due to the closed destinations of Egypt and Turkey. After Greece, which was their top choice for May, Tunisia, Thailand, Vietnam, Bulgaria and the UAE were their preferred tourist destinations. As the survey among Russian Tour Operators indicated Russians were cutting their holidays short, with the average in may standing at 7-8 days. According to Yevgeny Kiselyov, head of sales for Mouzenidis Travel, there was a third increase in May of Russians visiting Greece and Cyprus compared to last year. Chalkidiki in Macedonia was their top choice in Greece, while the island of Kerkyra and Athens also featured high on their list. In addition to these numbers, Russians tend to seek more affordable accommodation, selecting lower rated hotels and search for ‘all inclusive’ packages.
